A full field of 64 competitors showed up to enter the fray and see who could come out on top of the four-day event. {mosimage}Top seed Allison Fisher, who recently won the Florida Classic 9-Ball Championships over Ga-Young Kim, won her first-round match over Canada’s Rachael Abbink 9-3 and then squeaked by Tracie Hines in a double-hill match. Fisher’s next match will be against Vivian Villareal, who won over Maria Catalano and then Orange County’s Stacy Hurst. Helena “The Sledgehammer” Thornfeldt is going strong so far, whitewashing Susan Mello 9-0 and then going on to defeat Jennifer Chen 9-4. She will face Colorado’s Melissa Little in her next match. Little earlier bested Susan Wilbur 9-0 and then Kim White in a double-hill nail-biter. Atlanta’s Monica Webb scored a major win in the second round, sending Austrian sensation Jasmin Ouschan to the left side of the chart with a 9-6 victory. Webb faces Megan Minerich, who breezed through her match with Caroline Pao 9-3 and then eked out a 9-7 win over Melissa Herndon.
