Brothers and Lac Control Their Comebacks
Tiger Pool Tour / Arnold, MD
by Rick Davis, Inside POOL Magazine
Filling Bill and Billies Cuesport in Arnold, MD, the Tiger Pool Tour pulled in 85 and 24 players in the open and ladies’ billiards divisions, respectively, over the March 31-April 1 weekend. In the open division Josh Brothers recovered from a brief visit on the one-loss side to claim the title, while My-Hahn Lac made a large comeback to do the same.
In the open division Brothers faced Matt Clatterbuck in the hot seat match, and after the final rack Clatterbuck had escaped with a 9-8 squeaker. On the one-loss side things were heating up as well as Brett Stottlemeyer eliminated Jerry Slivka 7-5 on his way to the quarterfinals. In that same round Lee Holt ousted Cary Dunn 7-3 then eliminated Stottlemeyer double-hill. With Holt in control of the one-loss side, Brothers stopped by to fight out the semifinals, although it didn’t take long for him to knock out Holt after a 7-2 thrashing. Brothers earned the right to see the finals and play a rematch against Clatterbuck, and while the match kept even, again this time Brothers came through when it counted, taking the match 11-9 to claim the first-place finish.
In the ladies’ division it was Pamela Treadway and Melea Haacke in the hot seat match, but Treadway drove the steamroller over Haacke, defeating her 7-1. In the meantime, action on the one-loss side was dwindling down the field. Kathy Friend eliminated Linda Shea 5-3, while Lac knocked out Sueyen Rhee by the same margin. Lac was then able to gain some momentum, eliminating Friend 5-1 in the quarterfinals and Haacke 5-3 in the semifinals. Then, with only one match remaining, Treadway tried to defend her position from Lac’s impressive comeback, and although the match went double-hill, Lac was on a roll and played her way through Treadway to take the match and top finish.
The ladies’ event was also a qualifier for the BCA Enjoypool.com event that will take place in Las Vegas in May and offers some of the best competition from the WPBA ranks. In the open division, Slivka was able to take over the tours points leadership with this event’s finish.
