Alameda Overcomes the Odds
McDermott All-American Tour / Tucson, AZ
by InsidePOOL Staff
Rudy Alameda overcame the odds to take the final match of the March 31-April 1 McDermott All-American Tour’s stop. Hosted by Main Street Billiards in Phoenix, AZ, this event featured a $1,500-added purse and 90 eager players.
In this double-elimination 9-ball tournament, Tucson’s Dave Capone ran undefeated to the finals. In the hot seat match, he squeaked by Chris Paradowski, another Tucson player, 9-8. Alameda, having lost early in the event, made waves on the west side of the chart.
He eliminated Adam King in the B-side semifinals and Chris Paradowski 7-4 in the B-side finals to gain a crack at Capone for the title. In the one-set final match, Capone appeared to be in control most of the way, taking 5-1 and then 9-5 leads, only to have Alameda overtake Capone on the hill for the title 11-10.
