20K-28 Results at Shooters Billiards in Torontoby Willy HermozaOne of the strongest fields to play in a 20K tour stop lately showed up at Shooters in Scarborough. Six Filipinos where there to grab the stop and all played very well, but it can be only one at the end. When the dust settled, Erik Hjorleifson was crowned as the new champion at the Canadian 20K Tour stop at Shooters. Eight players returned Sunday at 2.00 pm to stake their claim and portion of the cash. The A side top bracket featured Ed Muir 7+ vs. Erik Hjorleifson 9+ (match is 7-9) which Erik strolled by with a sound 9-1 score. The A side bottom had Rob Brandenburg 8+ vs. Kenny Chen 7+ (match is 8-7) and Rob advanced with an 8-5 score. The “Hot seat” match featured Erik Hjorleifson 9+ vs. Rob Brandenburg 8+. The match was extremely intense, with Erik besting Rob by a 9-6 score.
On the one loss side top bracket, good friends George Cornelius 7 and Mike Patrowicz 6 faced off against each other with the match going hill-hill in favor of Mike. The next match saw both Ed Muir and Kenny Chen even at 7+ vs. 7+ and the match went to Ed by a 7-1 score. Kenny snagged 4th Ed Muir was playing very well and went up against Rob Brandenburg. This was a good match but only one can win, in which Ed Muir who moved ahead. He got the ticket to see the “hot seat” holder, none other than the guy that sent him to grind on the one loss side. Ed took a little break since he had been riding the “horse” nonstop. He faced Erik Hjorleifson 9+ (match is 7-9) and defeated Erik with a 7-5 score. Ed Muir who took the first set in the finals giving Erik something to think about since Erik had placed second twice before. All had lost once and Erik reloaded two barrels with fresh ammunition to go for the gusto with a 9-3 win to claim the stop like a champion. Erik Hjorleifson, played like a true champion. Shooters marks the end of the fourth round with the start of the fifth round is at Landmark Billiards. All stops from there on will be counting as double-double for qualifying to the finals. One tournament will be credited as two regarding penalties for the finals.
