A Pushover for Pena McDermott All-American Tourby InsidePOOL StaffEast Moline, IL - Rick Pena rebounded from an early loss and then ran roughshod over a 42-player field at the eleventh stop of the 2005/2006 McDermott All-American Tour (produced by the American CueSports Alliance). The $500-added stop featured double-elimination 9-ball and was hosted by owner Dwaine Bowman at Leisure Time Billiards in East Moline, IL, February 4.
Pena, hailing from Davenport, IA and rated a 5, lost early to Blake Byrket 4-3 but then caught his second wind. He eliminated David Coles Jr. 5-4 in the one-loss bracket semifinals and Blake Byrket 5-3 in the one-loss bracket finals. His undefeated opponent in the finals was Dave Noble of Sterling, IL, who had previously defeated Blake Byrket 5-3 in the winners’-bracket finals. Having to defeat Dave Noble two sets in the finals, Pena continued his hot hand by out pointing his opponent in two sets 5-4, 5-3 for the title. By virtue of also being the highest-finishing ACS member, Pena qualified for a free entry into either the 2006 ACS National 8-Ball Championships or the 2006 ACS National 9-Ball Championships, courtesy of the ACS.
