ACS Presents The McDermott All American Tour Results from Flipper McCoy’sThe twenty-fourth stop of the 2005/2006 McDermott All American Tour (produced by the American CueSports Alliance – ACS) featured a $1,000-added purse and twenty-six men hosted by director Mike Wilson at Flipper McCoy’s in Norfolk, Virginia, on Friday/Saturday, April 28/29.  Fifteen women also showed up, so a separate division with an additional $250 added purse was arranged.  The event featured double-elimination 8-ball on bar boxes, and in the men’s division Jack Davis of Virginia Beach, Virginia marched undefeated to the finals.  In the hot-seat match, Davis dispatched Bernard Andico (Virginia Beach, VA) 7-3.  In the loser’s bracket quarterfinals Harry Kernodle (Virginia Beach, VA) eliminated Jeff Smith 5-1, while Vern Steinke ousted David Swartz 5-1.  Steinke then stopped Kernodle at 4th place by a 5-4 margin, and he continued his hot pace to finish off Andico 5-2 in the loser’s bracket finals.  The title match could have gone either way, but Jack Davis survived a first set drubbing from Steinke 2-7 to recover in the deciding set 7-5 for the championship.
In the women’s division, Toni Barnes ((Virginia Beach, VA) had a similar experience, marching undefeated to the hot-seat.  In the winner’s bracket finals, Toni took out Cassandra Johnson (Virginia Beach, VA) 5-3.  The loser’s bracket quarterfinals featured Mary Ellen Clements (Virginia Beach, VA) ousting Connie Rhodes (Virginia Beach, VA) 3-0 and Cheryl Pritchard (Chesapeake, VA) eliminating Carla Rossetti (Chesapeake, VA) 3-0.  Pritchard clipped Clements 3-2 in the loser’s bracket semifinals and marched on to gain the tourney finals match by dispatching Johnson 3-1.  The tourney finals was a character-tester, as Toni Barnes lost 4-5 to Pritchard in the first set, only to recover by the slimmest of margins in the deciding set 5-4 for the tourney win!  By virtue of being the highest-finishing ACS member, Jack Davis qualified for a free entry into the 2006 ACS National 8-Ball Championships – courtesy of the ACS. The ACS wishes to thank sponsors McDermott Handcrafted Cues, Silver Cup Chalk, PJ’s Billiard Supply Co. and Samm’s Side Pocket Productions for their support in donating “Value-In-Kind” product for this and all stops on the McDermott All American Tour. Sponsorship opportunities for the 2006/2007 All American Tour are available by contacting the ACS.Saturday, May 6, will feature more action on the McDermott All American Tour with a stop at Leisure Time in Sterling, IL, hosting a $500 added 8-ball event (for onsite entry details contact Jim LaFavre at 815/625-8279).  Information and schedules for the 2005/2006 McDermott All American Tour are available at www.americancuesports.org.  The ACS is a non-profit, national organization dedicated to heightening the interest and awareness of cue sports through the support and sanctioning of organized competition throughout the United States and North America. Final Results:                                                                                     (Men)1st         Jack Davis (Virginia Beach, VA)2nd         Vern Steinke (Norfolk, VA)3rd         Bernard Andico (Virginia Beach, VA)            4th         Harry Kernodle (Virginia Beach, VA)5-6th      Jeff Smith (Grandy, NC)              David Swartz (Virginia Beach, VA)7-8th      Billy Tipton (Virginia Beach, VA)              Tommy Sullivan (Grandy, NC)9-12th     John Wertenbach (Virginia Beach, VA)              Dwayne Theirjung (Norfolk, VA)              Patrick Espino (Virginia Beach, VA)                   Frank Haniball (Norfolk, VA)(Women)1st          Toni Barnes (Virginia Beach, VA)2nd         Cheryl Pritchard (Chesapeake, VA)3rd          Cassandra Johnson (Virginia Beach, VA)4th          May Ellen Clements (Virginia Beach, VA)5-6th       Carla Rossetti (Chesapeake, VA)              Connie Rhodes (Virginia Beach, VA)
