Japan’s Hiroshi Takenaka and Goh Takami also remain unbeaten, winning over Gijs van Helmond 10-2 and Vilmos Foldes 10-6. Roman Hybler of Germany sent Santos Sambajon Jr. to the one-loss side 10-8, and Thomas Seiffert triumphed over Japan’s Tomoki Mekari 10-7.Since then, several world-class players have been sent home early, such as Majid, Broumpton, Thomas Engert, and Kevin Becker. Both brackets are currently playing, and the one-loss side will endure two more before being narrowed to only two players returning from the west side.
Robb Saez of the U.S. was eliminated this morning after forfeiting his match against Andy Barnett. When he didn’t show, the IPT staff made repeated attempts to contact him, only to find out that he was under the impression that his match was not until 12:30 p.m. Though tournament director Deno Andrews allowed Saez extra time, the Florida resident arrived too late, reporting that his first taxi had a flat tire and his second got into an accident. The Dutch team of Alex Lely and Nick Van den Berg are onsite, taking on challengers two at a time. So far, no one has come close to defeating the Dutch duo in a race to 8. Lely won his first two matches against Ralf Mund 8-4 and Jurgen Wulf 8-1, while Van den Berg bested Sascha-Andrej Tege 8-2 and Ryoko Onaka 8-4. Each earned $1,000 for each match won. There will be one more round for each, and if the challengers win, they earn free entry into one of the upcoming IPT qualification events.Visit InsidePOOL for the latest news in the world of billiards and pool.
