Allison Fisher Victorious at the Tournament of ChampionsBy InsidePOOL StaffAllison Fisher took down the Tournament of Champions with a victory over Jeanette Lee in the final match. This exciting one-day event was held at the Mohegan Sun Resort and Casino in Uncasville, CT, and brought four of the top women players to compete for the winner-takes-all $25,000 prize. The Tournament of Champions is sponsored by Olhausen Billiards, Viking Cues, Silver Cup Chalk, Iwan Simonis, Ozone Billiards, The Spider, InsidePOOL Magazine, and the Mohegan Sun. The format for this annual event was 9-ball, with each match consisting of two race-to-5 sets. In the case of split sets, a one-game tiebreaker was employed. Referee and comedian Frank Del Pizzo presided over each match, and between matches entertained the crowd.
The first set matched up Allison Fisher and Karen Corr. At the WPBA U.S. Open in Albuquerque two weeks ago, Corr regained the top spot in the WPBA’s rankings with her second-place finish there. Tonight, Fisher seemed determined to wreak her revenge and wiped Corr out of the first set with a 5-1 win. The second set saw the players trade the lead at the beginning of the match, but Fisher pulled into the lead 3-2 after Corr came up empty on the break. She then followed this with a break-and-run to reach the hill. Corr broke and ran out to put another game under her belt, but Fisher scored yet another break and run to win the second set 5-3.Defending champion Visit InsidePOOL for the latest news from the Women's Tournament of Champions.
