The inaugural event of the Viking Cue Ladies’ 9-Ball Tour took place March 4 at The Pool Room in Duluth, GA, where a strong contingent of billiards players came out to attack the exciting new series of events. Offering a race to 7 on both sides of the chart, the new 9-ball tour promises to offer unparallel action for the ladies, which has been lacking for many years. In addition, many of the events will offer a WPBA qualifier to sweeten the prize fund.
Dominating the event were the Cha sisters, Yu Ram and Bo Ram, who are celebrities in their native Korea and are expected to keep a stranglehold on the new offering from the Viking Tour. They each captured half of the winners’ side and eventually met in the hot seat match, although their encounter was one-sided as Yu Ram drilled her sister 7-2.
On the one-loss side things did not get any easier, and none of the matches seemed even. Stephanie Mitchell, a terror on the southern ladies’ events, stomped her way through to the semifinals after taking a 7-4 defeat from Yu Ram midway through the event. In the semifinals it became a family affair as Bo Ram took her chance and picked off Mitchell 7-4. Once again the Korean duo met in the finals, and though it was a closer match, Yu Ram was far too strong and swept through the match 7-5 to claim the title.
