Championship Goes to Ussery on the J. Pechauer Southeast Open 9-Ball TourJ. Pechauer Southeast Open 9-Ball Tour / Atlanta, GAby InsidePOOL StaffInsidePOOL Magazine’s 2005 Amateur Player of the Year has done it again, taking off the J. Pechauer Southeast Open 9-Ball Tour’s championship event April 8-9. Host of this event for three years now, Mr. Cues II in Atlanta, GA, added $3,000 to the pot, and 47 players attempted to capture the majority of the cash. This event was open only to players who had participated in the tour’s regular season throughout the year, which meant that the field was strong and competitive. One-pocket master Cliff Joyner matched up with Atlanta’s Steve Moore in the hot seat match, and Moore turned him away with a decisive 9-4 victory. After surviving a hill-hill nailbiter against tour director Tommy Kennedy 9-8, Ussery went on to relegate Joyner to third place in the semifinal match. In the final race to 11, Ussery’s momentum carried him through to an 11-5 victory over Moore, claiming the first-place prize and championship title.
