Defending champion Karen Corr zipped through two matches to reach the semifinals on Sunday, defeating Sarah Ellerby and Gerda Hofstatter 9-2 and 9-4, respectively. Hofstatter just got off a major win against Melissa Herndon, who was ahead 5-1 before Hofstatter came back with six racks straight plus another pair after giving away one more. Hofstatter said, “Silly things happened like missing the nine. I decided she won the first set to five—my goal was to win the next one.”View the tournament bracket
On the other end of the board, Allison Fisher defeated Jennifer Barretta 9-7 after losing to her the previous evening, then reached the semifinals by knocking out Tiffany Nelson 9-4. Monica “The Assassin” Webb defeated Vivian Villareal 9-3 then Ga-Young Kim 9-6 for the right to face Fisher in the semis. After defeating these two major opponents, Webb said, “I feel great going into the last day—better than I ever have.” The last player to reach Sunday was Jeanette “The Black Widow” Lee, who defeated Kim Shaw 9-2 then Xiao-Ting Pan 9-1.Defending champion Corr has her sights on the repeat title, but on the other hand, only three times in her career has Fisher not taken a first-place finish in three consecutive events.
