Corr Scores Another Women's Professional Billiards Association TitleWPBA Midwest Classic/East Peoria, ILby Rick DavisKaren Corr went undefeated through seven rounds to take first place at the 2006 WPBA Midwest Classic. Taking place at the Par-a-dice Hotel and Casino in East Peoria, IL, July 26-30, a full field of 64 competitors were anxious to get shooting.Action through the first two days served up some surprises as several top players did not reach the top 16 cutoff. Sarah Ellerby, who flew directly from the IPT’s North American Open 8-Ball Championship; Jennifer Barretta; and Vivian Villarreal, number six on the tour, were among those not advancing to single-elimination play. With play on Saturday in full swing, it was do or die for the remaining players. Allison Fisher took a quick win only to be eliminated 9-7 in the next round by Xiaoting Pan, while Kelly Fisher stormed past Ga-Young Kim 9-4 to meet Pan in the semifinals. Kim White started off good, eliminating Julie Kelly 9-4, but then became Monica Webb’s second victim of the day after she sent Gerda Hofstatter a pink slip in the previous round.
Webb faced Corr in the semifinals after she emerged from the most difficult portion of the chart. While Corr won the battle against Val Finnie 9-6, Jeanette Lee nearly shutout Ewa Lawrence 9-2 but then just missed the mark against Corr 9-7.In the semifinals Corr defeated Webb and Fisher defeated Pan, both 7-4. Then in the final match Corr emerged victorious after defeating Fisher 7-5. This was Corr’s third first-place finish in the five events completed this season with only two events remaining.Results:1st Karen Corr $13,0002nd Kelly Fisher $8,0003rd Xiaoting Pan $5,000Monica Webb 5th Allison Fisher $3,000Megan Minerich Kim WhiteJeanette Lee9th Val Finnie $2,100Ewa LauranceJulie KellyGerda HofstatterBelinda CalhounPam TreadwaySarah RouseyGa-Young KimVisit Inside POOL Magazine for the latest news from the sport of billiards and pool.
