Deuel Says Europeans Should Stand Up And Be MenAmerican pool player Corey Deuel has challenged the European billiards team to “stand up and be men” and captain their PartyPoker.com Mosconi Cup side.Discuss the PartyPoker.com Mosconi CupDeuel, 29, is back in the USA line-up after missing the last three tournaments but is not impressed with the Europeans having a non-playing captain – Johan Ruijsink.
“There’s not one player in the European team man enough to be captain,” said Deuel. “I don’t think that’s right. I think one of the players needs to stand up for their country and be captain.“We’ve got Johnny Archer and he is a role model for our team. He takes the initiative and pulls us together. They need one of the players to step up like a man and pull their team together. I guess they trust this guy but he isn’t a seasoned player and I don’t know him.”American players performed badly at the recent World Pool Championship in Manila, Philippines when none of their players advanced past the Last 64. Deuel believes that will spur on the USA side and make them more determined to continue their excellent record that has seen them lift the trophy on ten out of 12 occasions.“We want to prove ourselves this year,” said Deuel. “I’m looking forward to it and it’s always a fun event. This is my first time in Holland, it’s a new experience and I’m having a good time.“Our spirit is good. We’re all jumping around having a good time and we’re happy to be here. I always get a nervous in the Mosconi Cup events and get a bit excited but I play hard, that’s how I deal with my nerves.“We all come together for this tournament and all get along pretty well. If we start losing we might start yelling at each other but that’s just to help out.”
