Dynamic Billiard Duo Gets All the Skins
by Sally P. Timko
The husband and wife billiards team of George "The Flamethrower" Breedlove and Jeanette Lee swept the Skins Billiards Championship February 10. Hosted by the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, MA, this event was presented by Billiards International, Ltd., and Allen Hopkins.

In this unique format, the Breedlove/Lee team faced off against Johnny Archer and Jennifer Barretta in an attempt to win three games in a row, thus constituting a "skin." There were 12 racks in all and $40,000 to give away. Each skin was worth escalating amounts, and a $1,000 bonus went to the team who won the most skins. Funny man Frank Del Pizzo presided over the entire affair, keeping the audience entertained at all times.
Even though Breedlove said that the husband and wife team did not practice at home beforehand, their chemistry—which must come from their 11-and-a-half years of happy marriage—was evident to everyone. Though the Archer/Barretta team won the first two racks, Breedlove and Lee quickly rallied, not only winning the next three to take the first skin but racking up the next two as well, bringing their total winnings to $33,000. The last skin went into sudden death, with Breedlove executing a smashing kick-bank on the 4 ball. With dicey position on the 5 ball, Lee was forced to play safe, and Archer came with a kick shot to pocket it in the side. But Barretta wobbled the 6 ball all the way up the rail, where it halted in the corner pocket, and the Breedlove/Lee team pocketed the remaining balls and the last skin, worth another $6,000, bringing their total winnings to $40,000.
The Skins Billiards Shootout will air on ESPN April 5 from 7-8 pm.
