Europeans Going Strong Through Round Four of Billiards TournamentFormer World Pool Masters winner Tony “The Tornado” Drago defeated 2004 Player of the Year Thomas Engert of Germany in the fourth round 8-6. Long recognized as one of the fastest players in the game, Drago’s match was again one of the first ones finished.Discuss the IPT World Open 8-Ball ChampionshipVisit the IPT World Open 8-Ball Championship Image Gallery “Going well so far—I won the first one eight-zero then I beat Putnik, then Anka. I’d like to play a bit better, but three out of three—I can’t complain. I’ve been watching and no one has been making balls on the break … I’m feelin’ good and hope I will advance. The way I am playing, I am staying positive. You know every day is different and you have to wait and see.”
Nick Van den Berg, Serbian Sandor Tot, Alex Lely, Yannick Beaufils, Fabio Petroni, Oliver Ortmann, and Mika Immonen have all won their fourth-round matches. Niels Feijen of The Netherlands bested Jerry Calderon in his fourth-round match 8-2, saying, “It was nice—I broke and ran four in total. I’m three and oh. I got a little lucky in the second match: He was up seven-six and didn’t get out twice, so I was not too happy with that match. This match was real solid, so it’s coming along. It’s gone pretty good, I was a little unlucky with my break cue. I broke against the Venezuelan in the second match and my buttcap came off and hit a ball, so I made a foul there instead of still playing. I’ve been playing good all week before this and got some rest finally—it’s always hard when you a play a lot of tournaments, just getting rest, and hitting balls a few hours a day.”Ben Nunan of Australia has won three matches so far and is a sure bet to advance. “I’m not playing the best, but I won three out of the four matches. Second in my group, I think. I’ve done well and I’m pretty happy about it. I’m finishing when the balls are there pretty much every time, although I am not as comfortable on the table as I would have liked. Breaks are a bit dodgy … good in some matches and pretty average in some others, so I am going to have to work on that tonight, I think. I might come down later on and fix it up a bit—that’s the only way you can win, I think. But other than the break I’m very confident.”Round 1 GROUP 1T. HohmannS. MooreL. JonesW. KiamcoJ.
