Fergason Finds His Way Through the FinalsMcDermott All-American Tour / Sedalia, MO
by InsidePOOL Staff
Bob Fergason of Lexington, MO, fought his way undefeated through the finals of the March 3-4 billiard stop of the 2006/2007 McDermott All American Tour. Hosted by Sharky’s Billiards and Modern Day Veterans, Chapter 402, in Sedalia, MO, this tournament featured a $500-added purse with 35 players.
The event included a race to 7 in the A bracket and a race to 5 in the B bracket, double-elimination 8-ball format on 7-foot Valley bar boxes. Fergason ran undefeated in the A bracket to the finals, while Keith Hayden fought his way back through the B bracket to finish second. In the determining match, Hayden was down by two games but battled his way back to tie Fergason 4-4. Fergason regained the lead at 5-4 only temporarily. Hayden settled down and took the next two games and the lead at 6-5. In a silent and determined manner, Fergason won the next game to tie the match on the hill at 6-6. Both players played a lot of defense in the final game, but Fergason was able to pull it out and win first place. Both spectators and players agreed they’d witnessed some amazing shooting in the match.
Hayden had originally been put into the west side of the chart when he was beaten by Rob Hough, who finished fourth. Lloyd Moreland, the third place winner, had a four-match winning streak in the A bracket only to be dumped in the left side in his fifth match in the winners’ bracket against Fergason.
Saturday, March 24, will feature a McDermott All American Tour stop at Cue Masters Billiards in Dubuque, IA, hosting a $1,000-added 8-ball stop (for onsite entry details contact Bill Kramer at 563-557-0875).
