Few Surprises at SML Entertainment's 9-Ball Championships By R.T. Mechling The competition is heating up at the SML Entertainment's 9-Ball Championships, being held at Calgary, Alberta’s, Olympic Oval as it enters its fourth day of play. The five-day event will conclude on April 23 and is featuring some of today’s best players. The first two rounds yielded few surprises, and the third day continued that trend as many of the favorites easily advanced into the fourth round, which will commence play on Friday at 12 p.m. Mountain Time. Canadian Danny Hewitt continued his stellar run by ousting Claire Gauthier 11-5. Hewitt will face Brady Gollan in today’s fourth-round action. Other winners included Alex Pagulayan, Danny Basavich, Earl Strickland, Dave McGinest, Paul Potier, Luc Salvas, Benny Onyschuck, and Johnny Archer, who has a combined score of 33-8 through three rounds. Jeff White headed to the west side after he fell to Bob Begay 11-9 in a tight match. White will look to avoid elimination from this tournament when he takes on Grace Nakamura in Friday’s “B”-side action. Over $35,000 in prizes will be awarded to the top players of this tournament, and as the field of players steadily narrows, there are sure to be some highly anticipated match-ups as the event reaches its conclusion this Saturday.Visit InsidePOOL for the latest news in the sport of billiards and pool.
