Final Four at the WPBA U.S. OpenBy InsidePOOL StaffIt’s come down to the final four at the WPBA U.S. Open, and there have been some major surprises on Saturday! The Open is being held at the Sandia Casino in Albuquerque, NM, and will conclude on Sunday, October 24.In the winners’ bracket starting off on Saturday, there were eight players, headed off by Allison Fisher and Karen Corr, the WPBA’s two leading ladies. Fisher defeated Gerda Hofstatter in a hill-hill match and then played an incredible match with Melissa Herndon of Thousand Oaks, CA. Herndon was down 6-2 against “The Duchess of Doom” before coming back to defeat her 9-8.
Defending champion Corr matched up with snooker sensation Kelly Fisher, recently arrived in the U.S., and defeated her 9-3. She then went on to play Ga Young Kim, last year’s runner-up, and was sent to the one-loss side 9-7.The hot seat match was between Kim and Herndon, and both players fought hard, but Kim emerged with a 9-7 win, sending Herndon to the one-loss side.In the one-loss bracket, Melissa Little defeated Vivian Villareal 9-7 but lost to Kelly Fisher 9-5.
