Final Three Remain at Glass City OpenBy Tom Martin, InsidePOOL StaffAfter Saturday’s rounds, four players remained alive to battle it out on the TV table. After a long, tough match with Nick Varner, Toledo’s own Steve “The Mechanic” McAninch threw a wrench in Archer’s plans for a repeat victory, eliminating him from the tournament with a 10-7 win. Archer had just come off a win from Keith McCready but could not find his break. Buddy Hall ousted Jeremy Jones before falling to Troy Frank 10-3. on the winners’ side, Danny Basavich posted an upset over Corey Deuel, as did Charlie Bryant with his win over Earl Strickland. Strickland then lost to Frank 10-8, and Deuel ended McAninch’s hopes with a lopsided 10-5 victory.
In the first televised match today, Deuel lambasted Frank 10-2, forcing Frank to accept a fourth-place finish. After trading games early, Deuel found a consistent break and strung rack after rack together. While not an illegal soft break, it is controlled, and Deuel looks tough to beat. Basavich will play Bryant for the hot seat while Deuel awaits the loser. The finals are to take place at 7 p.m. These TV final matches will be aired back-to-back in their entirety on local sports cable channel Buckeye Sports Network and will be broadcast around the country through Comcast and Empire Network later this year.Visit InsidePOOL for the latest news on the Glass City Open.
