On the winners’ side, Sparkey Ferrell defeated Richie Richeson, and Dave Broxson defeated Walter Blacker. At the same time, Carlos Viera defeated Dennis Searing and Gabe Owen bested Bill Ferguson. On the one-loss side, Mark Coats eliminated Dave Grossman, and “Rocket” Rodney Morris beat Dennis Hatch, with both matches going double-hill. Also, Gary Flannery defeated Ron Wiseman and B.J. Ussery defeated Richie Orem. Grossman, Wiseman, Hatch, and Orem each received $300 for their 13-16th place finish.
Powering ahead to the top eight, Ussery blew by Blacker, only giving up one rack, while Bill Ferguson breezed past Gary Flannery by the same margin. Meanwhile, Richie Richeson squeezed past Rodney Morris 8-6, and Mark Coats grinded past Dennis Searing. Flannery, Morris, Blacker, and Searing each received $450 for their 9-12th place finish.Now as players reach the edge of the tournament charts and higher payouts, everyone’s game starts to tighten up and get more serious.
