Fourth Round of Billiards Tournament to BeginThe third round of today’s matches has concluded, with the players warming up for the fourth currently. Former world champion and reigning U.S. Open champ Alex “The Lion” Pagulayan met Texas’s Charlie Bryant in the third round and came away the 8-4 winner. “I felt pretty good—in the beginning I made a mistake and was watching the cue ball instead of the object ball,” Pagulayan explained. “After that I regrouped and played good. The group is good, I feel like I will get out of the group. I’m breaking not bad. Not as hard as I want to because it’s a long session, you gotta play ten hours, so I don’t want to waste all my energy.”Discuss the IPT World Open 8-Ball ChampionshipVisit the IPT World Open 8-Ball Championship Image GalleryJose Parica suffered his second loss of the day so far, making it unlikely that he will advance to Tuesday’s play. He met Australia’s snooker star Quinten Hann and came away with an 8-4 loss. Fellow countryman Ronato Alcano, though, has had more success today, winning his second match of the day 8-3 over David Alcaide of Spain. “Marvelous Marlon” Manalo continues undaunted as well, winning 8-5 over J. Pechauer Southeast Open 9-Ball Tour director Tommy Kennedy. Francisco Bustamante defeated Mike Davis 8-5.
The ladies are turning in more wins in this round. Gerda Hofstatter registered a debilitating 8-1 victory over former U.S. Open champion Mike LeBron, and Loree Jon Jones did the same damage to Jim Raney. WPBA number two Karen “The Irish Invader” Corr bested Rafael Martinez by a large 8-3 margin, counting four break and run-outs in that match. Kelly Fisher upset Sweden’s Marcus Chamat by defeating him 8-5 and remaining undefeated for the day so far. Jeremy Jones dealt Ewa Laurance an 8-2 loss, while Tammie Jones lost 8-1 to Joern Kaplan, Linda Carter suffered an 8-4 loss to Gerry Watson, and Jackie Broadhurst was defeated by Glenn Atwell 8-4.The fourth round will be the deciding factor for many players, as the top three out of the five group members will advance to Tuesday’s play. Two wins is not necessarily a guarantee to advance, so the players teetering on the edge will have to bear down in the next two rounds.Round 1 GROUP 1T. HohmannS. MooreL. JonesW. KiamcoJ.
