Gulf Coast Classic UnderwayBy InsidePOOL StaffThe Gulf Coast Classic broke the rack yesterday to start five days of exciting billiards. Grady Mathews, who is running the event, has a field of 59 players competing in three different weekend events.Wednesday kicked off the tournament with a one-pocket event, and Shannon Daulton seems to be the early favorite. Cliff Joyner, another strong player, was late to the event and had to forfeit his first match. He was then ousted from the one-pocket tournament, but remains a favorite for the 9-ball event, which got underway today. Saturday night's big money event is the Bank Pool Ring Game, a six-man competition featuring Daulton and the 2004 Derby City 9-ball banks division winner Jason Miller. The event, held at the Grand Casino in Gulfport, MS, is a premier December outing in the Southeast. Saturday's ring game, as well as Sunday's big finishes should be an exciting wrap up.
