Taking place at Hippo’s House of Billiards in Utica, NY, 26 players turned out to fight for the title.Sunday afternoon brought the top eight players back, where the winners’ side had Hatch destroy Gary Empey 9-3 while Dan Heidrich slipped past Jerry Slivka double-hill. Hatch continued to play strong in the hot seat match where he faced Heidrich and strolled past him 9-4.
On the one-loss side, the day began with John Morra eliminating tour director Mike Zuglan 9-8, while Seth Delvillano knocked out Canada’s Eric Hjorleifson 9-7. In the next round, Slivka and Empey wiped out the rest of the competition as Slivka bested Morra 9-5 and Empey ousted Delvillano 9-4. Moving on Slivka had no trouble with Empey, eliminating him 9-5, with the win getting him to the semifinals.Slivka and Heidrich fought a seesaw battle to determine who would see the finals, and in the end, Slivka reached the top first, taking the double-hill victory. The finals between Hatch and Slivka offered a true double-elimination format, and after Slivka took the first set 9-8, another set was required.
