Hatch Sharpest in New York on the Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tourby Matthew PingorRotterdam, NY - Appending his second consecutive win on the Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour, was none other than Dennis “Hatchet Man” Hatch. A field of 32 players came out to tour director Mike Zuglan’s Pro-Billiards of Rotterdam, NY, for the March 11-12 event. The room was packed all weekend, and a total purse of $4,560 kept the players working hard. Tom D’ Alfonso saw a solid defense as he played Mike Zuglan in the hot seat match. Zuglan held D’Alfonso back as long as he could, but buckled at the last minute, allowing D’Alfonso to move forward 9-8. The quarterfinals featured Hatch and Greg Antonakos. Hatch showed just how sharp he can be when he cut Antonakos down 9-5. Hatch then advanced to the semifinals. Although he runs the tour and owns the room the event was played in, no amount of home advantage could help Zuglan from being reduced to kindling as Hatch diced him up in this match 9-2.
D’Alfonso was waiting for Hatch in the finals. He might as well have stayed in his seat as Hatch came up in the first set to win 9-0. The next round was a bit trickier. Hatch had to wait as D’Alfonso won a few games here and there, stalling the inevitable. See Hatch had already marked D’Alfonso to come down. As the back and forth subsided, Hatch put a few more wins on the board to finish off D’Alfonso 9-6. This, Hatch’s second first place win in a row, earned him $1,360.Results: 1st Dennis Hatch2nd Tom D’Alfonso3rd Mike Zuglan4th Greg Antonakos5th Paul RozonewskiBruce Carroll7th Tony RubertoFrank SorrientoVisit Inside POOL Magazine for the latest news from the CNY 9-Ball Tour.
