Hernandez Holds Down the FortJ. Pechauer New England 9-Ball / Abington, MAby Matthew Pingor Dave Hernandez kept up his money–placing profile April 1-2, as the J. Pechauer New England 9-Ball tour dropped in to Cue Sports Café of Abington, MA. This stop offered over $500 in prize money and featured a field of 25 players. Dismantling Joey Dupuis like a cheap action figure, Hernandez clinched the hot seat. The match itself did not last too long. After only placing four wins on the scoreboard, Dupuis fell to Hernandez 7-4. Randy Labonte was working up a sweat in the quarterfinals. Upon taking the match hill-hill against Louis Rios, Labonte progressed into the next stage 7-6.
The semifinals entertained just as well as the quarterfinals. In a lengthy and tight battle, Labonte attempted to end Dupuis campaign for another shot at Hernandez. Labonte came out strong, winning the first few games, but Dupuis would not have any of that. He took over quickly and gave Labonte something to think about on the ride home, 7-5. With the rest of the field out of the way, all attention was on Hernandez and Dupuis in the finals. The match was a race to ten. Hernandez was sly as he invested interest in exploiting Dupuis’s mistakes. They paddled back and forth for a while until Hernandez caught a glorious gale of wind, sinking Dupuis 10-6, and placing first.
