Juniors and Collegians Prepare for Title BidsBCA & ACUI National Championships set to start next weekColorado Springs, Colorado: The Billiard Congress of America [BCA] and the Association of College Unions International [ACUI] have again coordinated their national title playoffs into the 2nd Annual Junior & Collegiate 9-Ball Championships, which will kick-off at the University of Arizona in Tucson next week. Open since February of this year, the Student Union Memorial Center's Billiards & Games Room offers 17 new 9' pool tables to host the over 100 juniors and 60 undergraduates set to compete, July 5-9. The event combines two long-running and prestigious junior pool championships, each in their 18th consecutive years of competition. The three-day BCA playoff for juniors will be capped by an awards banquet on Friday evening to name the 2006 All-Americans, followed by division finals on Saturday. Top finishers in each junior division will also become eligible to compete as members of the US National Team that will travel to Sydney, Australia for the WPA World Junior Championships in November. ACUI collegiate playoffs will begin on Saturday and run through Sunday.
In addition to regulation 9-Ball, the 14-year tradition of “artistic pool” competition will also be offered. Organized by Tom "Dr. Cue" and Marty "Ms. Cue" Rossman, the championship offers age division players the opportunity to “take the artistic challenge”… in an easy to understand format and at a convenient time. Youngsters will be guided through the four shots and challenges in their division, and the top two point finishers will receive an award. The event is sponsored by Olhausen Billiard Mfg. Inc. (official table), Iwan Simonis (official cloth) and RST2 International (official rack). The University will charge admission to the facility ($3/day or $10/week; $5/ACUI only or $12/both events) for all non-competing guests and spectators. A roster of junior entrants is available in advance online, and AZBilliards.com will provide online event brackets once play begins.
