Keith Cleans House on the J. Pechauer New England 9-Ball SeriesJ. Pechauer New England 9-Ball Series / North Providence, RI by Matthew Pingor Taking his chances in the J. Pechauer New England 9-Ball Series, Mike Keith iced the cake of his weekend when he placed first at the April 9, event. In his dust was a 20-player field that came out to Rhode Island Billiards, of North Providence RI, for the action over the $500-added. The hot seat match saw the early upset of Ray MacNamara. Facing Keith in this round, MacNamara could only manage to post three wins before the tides of his skill subsided, yielding to the light of seven games, which Keith grabbed to advance into the finals 7-3. Redeeming earlier losses, Randy Labonte and Tony Ruberto squared away in the quarterfinal match. Ruberto had his ‘stuff’ together. He only let Labonte boast four wins before ending the occasion 7-4.
The semifinals turned out to be a success story for Ruberto and a waiting room for MacNamara, since all he did was sit. Ruberto lit the board up as well as MacNamara’s eyes. Running to a flawless finish, Ruberto won the match 7-0. Reflecting the same outcome, Keith kept Ruberto in his seat as long as possible. Only able to produce a trio of wins, Ruberto watched as this extra-painful match, 13 games, went in a direction he did not like. Keith carefully held the table and when the surgery was over, Keith clinched the 10-3 win for first place.
