Kennedy Rocks in TennesseeJ. Pechauer Southeast Open 9-Ball Tour / Sevierville, TNby InsidePOOL StaffTour director Tommy Kennedy snapped off yet another first-place finish on the J. Pechauer Southeast Open 9-Ball Tour. Held the weekend of April 1-2 at Sevierville Billiard Club in Sevierville, TN, this stop boasted $1,000-added money and a field of 28 talented players. Sevierville Billiard Club is the brainchild of room owner Mike Henry and reflects Henry’s lifetime love affair with pocket billiards. The room provided the tournament with 9-foot Diamond Billiard tables, Aramith pro balls, and red circle cue balls. Locals and professionals alike must appreciate the room’s quality, for Sevierville Billiard Club has become a hot spot for pros passing through town. On Day 1 of the event, the highest lady finisher not in the money, Creta Opyd, earned a $50 bonus, as did the highest junior finisher not the money, Brandon Jordon. But on the second day, it was all about the money matches.
Kennedy wrested with 2005 InsidePOOL Magazine’s Amateur Player of the Year, B.J. Ussery for the hot seat and came out ahead 9-7. In the quarterfinals, Haskell Brown fought a hill-hill nailbiter against Kyle Jenkins and triumphed 9-8. Brown went on to match up with Ussery to see who would earn the right to challenge Kennedy in the finals, but Ussery was too strong and came out the 9-7 victory. The finals went back and forth, but ultimately is was former U.S. Open champion Kennedy who came out ahead in the double-hill match 11-10.Results:1st Tommy Kennedy2nd B.J.
