Kennedy Wins by Landslide on the J. Pechauer Southeast Open 9-Ball Tourby Matthew Pingor Bluffton, SC - Tommy Kennedy surpassed the 43-player field to place first as the J. Pechauer Southeast Open 9-Ball Tour stopped at Parkway Billiard Club of Bluffton, SC. The March 4-5 event saw a purse of $2,900 pay 12 ways, and Kennedy was certainly happy to take $1,000 of that home with him after shuffling on up to first place. Mike Staubes faced Kennedy in the hot seat match. This was quite the battle. Both players wanted the cozy spot and that showed, as Kennedy did not win until the score was elevated to 9-6. In the quarterfinals Staubes was busy making quick work of Glen Smith. Only able to produce four wins, Smith fell to Staubes 9-4. Staubes was on a roll and nothing could stop him. Well, nothing happened to one Tony Watson and he did stop Staubes. In the semifinals these two played a full and satisfying match to hill-hill before Watson ended the affair 9-8.
The finals saw a match between Watson and Kennedy. Watson was not much of an obstacle for Kennedy and Kennedy knew he had the game in his grip. Taking first place, as well as a nice chunk of coin, Kennedy defeated Watson 11-6.
