Kiamco Takes U.S. Bar Table 9-Ball Championships
by Rick Davis
With the final day of the U.S. Bar Table 9-Ball Championships in swing, Warren Kiamco came through to win the event undefeated.
Kiamco was one of the top four on the winners’ side as the day began, and after defeating Dave Martin, Kiamco was in the hot seat match. Meeting him there was Rafael Martinez, who bested Shane van Boening, but Kiamco proved to be too strong and sent Martinez west as he proceeded to the finals.
On the one-loss side one final push was underway as everyone tried to inch their way up the payout list. Kim Davenport eliminated Eric Charleton then fell to James Walden, who had just knocked out Stan Tourangeau in the previous round. Tyler Edey knocked out Edwin Montal, and along with Jason Williams, filled in the one-loss side top four.
From there Martin eliminated Williams as Boening knocked out Walden. Boening then dropped the axe on Martin in the quarterfinals but fell short against Martinez, who eliminated him in the semifinals for a rematch against Kiamco. Still playing strong, Kiamco would not budge and, after defeating Martinez a second time, claimed the championship.
