Lea Lands His First WinViking Cue Amateur 9-Ball Tour / Duluth, GA
by Rick Davis
Taking place March 4, the Viking Cue Amateur 9-Ball Tour swept into The Pool Room in Duluth, GA, where a 24-player field met for an exciting day of double-elimination action. Hometown hero Bob Lea triumphed in the eleventh hour to win among fans and friends.
In the hot seat match Lea appeared to be asleep at the wheel as Stanley Lingerfelt drove over him 5-0. Then, on the one-loss side Floyd Reasons sent T.F. Whittington to the door. Whittington, who has a strong presence in the South, including appearances on the Florida Pro Tour, took what was certainly a surprise exit. Then, in the semifinals, Lea faced Reasons and, now apparently awake, eliminated him 5-3.
With a true double-elimination format Lea had a long road ahead while facing Lingerfelt for the second time, although after quick 5-2 opening set it was anyone’s game. With the tension mounting, the final set of the event reached double-hill and Lea took the final jump to the summit. Lea, who does not travel to any events although is certainly known in his hometown area, dispensed with all the competition to claim his first tour win ever in his lifetime.
Results:
1st Bob Lea
2nd Stanley Lingerfelt
3rd Floyd Reasons
4th T.F. Whittington
