Lights-Out Event in RenoBy InsidePOOL StaffWednesday's night late matches were postponed when a power outage struck, knocking out electricity over a four-block span.  Tournament officials said construction on an underground railroad caused the outage, and quoted Sands Regency Casino officials as saying that it wasn't the first time power has been lost during the construction. The brackets at the Reno Open are also under construction on Day 3 as each match comes to an end.  So far, there aren't too many surprises, but some of the top competitors are now playing one another.  Today's premier opening match is Jeremy Jones and "Rocket" Rodney Morris.  Morris advanced with a first-round bye and a 9-4 over William Anderson in the second round.  Jones barely escaped Art Wiggins 9-8 in his opening match but easily took his second-round match against Paul Juarez 9-3.
Another match to keep an eye on is Robb Saez against the current U.S. Open champ, Gabe Owen.  Both players faced opponents in the second round that had enjoyed byes in their opening matches.  Saez bested Earl Spencer 9-4 and blanked Sylvester Cornoado 9-0.  Owen opened up with a quick 9-2 win over Dennis White then followed up with a 9-5 win over Tony Annigoni.  None of the big names have been eliminated yet, but there are few unknowns that are making their way through the chart.  Eric Olsen started with a first-round win over Arturo Santander 9-7 followed by a 9-7 win over Dana Aldridge.  If he can upset Jose Parica today, he could make a run toward a finish on Sunday, but it's worth mentioning that Olsen is part of one of the toughest brackets that includes Owen, Saez, and Jones.Defending champion Mike Davis is also making a run toward another victory, but some tough competition in his bracket might have a say in that.  Jeff Carter is playing well and could stand in Davis' way, while George Michaels has two convincing wins and is line to meet Davis if both players win their next matches.  Also, Corey Deuel, Charlie Bryant, Glenn Atwell, and Danny Basavich are all still alive in the winners' bracket.Officials have also announced that this evening's five o'clock dinner break has been cancelled because of last night's postponement. Visit InsidePOOL for the latest news from the Reno Open.
