He won the first match and then broke and ran three in a row for an automatic 4-0 lead. When Stalev did make it to the table, he overshot, rattling the pocket and leaving an easy layout for Manalo. He was behind in the beginning of the match 4-3, but it wasn’t long before he took utter control, never allowing Reyes another game. Orcollo broke and ran the last two racks for an 8-4 victory. When asked about how he felt defeating Reyes, Orcollo merely said, “Of course I’m happy—he is a big player. It’s hard to beat him.”
“So far so good,” he added, “but I am still trying hard, because everyone is a good player and you never know what will happen.”Stalev and Reyes trail the group with no wins for the day. The all-German match-up between Ralf Souquet and Thorsten Hohmann was a grind—from holding a 4-1 lead, Hohmann had to watch Souquet chip away to even the score at 5 apiece. A missed shot down the long rail by Hohmann gave Souquet a one-game advantage, but “The Hitman” quickly retaliated when Souquet missed a thin cut in the side in the next. He broke and ran the following rack to reach the hill, but when he came up empty on his following break, Souquet joined him there. Making a ball on the break was all Souquet needed, and he did so, clearing the table for a hill-hill win.
