Masgay Marches Undefeated to FinalsMcDermott All-American Tour / Weston, WIby InsidePOOL StaffMike Masgay ran through the 36-player billiards field undefeated to take the top spot on the eleventh stop of the McDermott All-American Tour. Dale's Weston Lanes hosted this January 6 event, which was double-elimination 8-ball.
En route to the finals, Masgay outshot Tim Schotz 6-4, while Mark Hutchison clipped Mat Strong 6-5 in the A-side semifinals. Masgay then coasted by Hutchison 6-1 to take the hot seat. Matches in the B-side bracket included Tim Ruenger relegating Strong to fifth place with a 6-1 margin and Tim Schotz eliminating Kevin Klages 6-4, tying Strong with Klages. Ruenger, who lost his first-round match, built up his momentum by ousting Schotz 6-3 and Hutchison 6-2 and gaining a title shot at Masgay. In the first set of the finals, Masgay continued his mastery over the field with a 6-4 victory over Ruenger for the title. By virtue of seventh-place Kendall “Beko” Eggert being the highest-finishing ACS member, he qualified for a free singles entry into the 2007 ACS Nationals in Las Vegas – courtesy of the ACS.
