McCready Defends Golden Cue TitleBy Bill RosenbergerIn 2004, Keith McCready mightily handled the Joss Tour event at Golden Cue Billiards in Albany, NY. on April 16-17, he defended his title against Dan Hewitt at the family-owned poolroom.The Joss Tour once again drew a competitive field, as 49 players all tried their hand to earn some of the $6,920 purse. Joining McCready was Chris Orme, who won the last tour stop, Ryan McCreesh, Frankie Hernandez, and WPBA stars Julie Kelly and Karen Corr. While Orme, Kelly, and Corr all exited early, the rest of the bunch was still in the hunt on Sunday. The unlikely contender was Hewitt, but a 9-5 defeat to McCready sent him to the one-loss side to attempt a comeback. With the win, McCready headed to the hot seat match to face McCreesh, and "Keither with the Ether" continued his hot play with another 9-5 victory. The semifinal match featured McCreesh and Hewitt, who had just ousted Tony Ruberto. Hewitt's determination was the deciding factor in this match, as he pulled through to earn another shot at McCready in the finals.When the double-elimination final started, Hewitt was right on his game, as he easily took the first set 9-3. After a ten-minute break, though, McCready seemed to find himself again, turning his 7-4 lead into a 9-5 victory.The Joss Tour finale, which was postponed last month, has been rescheduled for August 18-21. The $25,000-added event will be played at Turning Stone Resort and Casino in Verona, NY.
