Mike “The Mouth” Presents a Math ProblemMike “The Mouth” Sigel bested Adam Wheeler 8-3 and has a good chance to play Tuesday. Afterward, he detailed the intricacies of his group:“I’m playing Corey Deuel—the loser of our match has to get five games to be in. Now, if Wheeler and the girl [Helena Thornfeldt] plays and let’s say Wheeler beats her eight to zero, one, or two, I’m in automatically. I have five wins in my loss and she would only have two, three, or four. Even if she wins three games, I still win with break and run-outs—I have six, unless she breaks and runs out two of those three games. Then she would have four and I have six. She’d have to break and run those three with me not winning a game. But unfortunately if that match goes eight-five, six, or seven and I lose eight to five or less, I’m out. Same with Corey Deuel.”Discuss the IPT World Open 8-Ball ChampionshipVisit the IPT World Open 8-Ball Championship Image Gallery
Regarding his performance today on the whole, he pontificated, “I fainted this morning, I dogged it and played bad against her [Thornfeldt], she played good, broke and run four racks, I still should have beat her but dogged it. I was tight the first match—it was expected, she played way over her head, but I got to the table and got out of line. I lost two key games, had an easy run out and got out of line, had to jack up to make the ball and stop the cue ball. Nobody in the world could have made it—I didn’t even want to shoot it that way, but it was the only thing I can do.”Sigel plays his final match against Deuel and prophesied, “I think I’m gonna win—I’m playing good, but you can’t tell by that. He ran six racks on the other guys. If he gets on a roll or I get on a roll …. Vickery was a joke—when you play a good player, there ain’t no eight-seven, it’s gonna be one, two, or three, that’s how it goes. It don’t work like that, one guy gets the break going and finds that spot and starts making balls on the break, it’s over—I don’t care who you’re playing. If I am playing Efren, it’s a blowout on these tables. As soon as one guy finds that break spot, it’s over, see you later. And that’s all there is to it.”The highly anticipated matchup of Jasmin Ouschan and Earl Strickland will begin at 8 p.m. Several people have picked Ouschan, but the majority feels that Strickland will win. They are the only two players in their group to have won a match and are guaranteed to advance to tomorrow’s action.Round 1 GROUP 1T. HohmannS. MooreL. JonesW. KiamcoJ. RaneyGROUP 2M. ManaloC.
