Multiple Formats and Events Bring Shooters to Shootersby Rick DavisShooters Billiards in Olathe, KS, is the center of attention in the Midwest this weekend as their event beginning today will run nearly around the clock until Sunday. Friday afternoon starts the 9-ball action with an open and ladies’ division, along with a players’ auction. Ladies will be racing to 7, while the open players will race to 9, both in a double-elimination format.Eyes were all on the one-pocket action Thursday, which began July 6 and is scheduled to run until Saturday. The $1,000-added, race to 3, double-elimination event attracted 40 entries, which include Buddy Hall, who is definitely the crowd favorite. Room owner Al Atkinson pointed out that its anyone’s game, with “hard hitters” such as Jesse Bowman and Brian Jones in the mix.
Players in the one-pocket match are treated to play on Gold Crowns with Simonis cloth, while those in the 9-ball events later on will use both Gold Crown and Diamonds, also with Simonis cloth. No one will be eliminated from play until tomorrow evening, so until then everyone waits to see who will emerge victorious from a serious field of players.
