A regular competitor o­n the Euro Tour, Van Den Berg had his maiden victory in April 2002, when he won through a strong field to defeat Finland's Marko Lohtander in the championship match at the Austrian Open in Salzburg.  Van den Berg's Top Two position o­n the Euro Tour rankings that year got him a spot o­n the Mosconi Cup team and despite his inexperience, he played like a seasoned veteran to help Europe to their first win for seven years.
