Reno Gains Another Ten IPT Billiard Playersby Inside POOL Magazine StaffThe International Pool Tour’s widely anticipated World Open 8-Ball Championship begins in less than two weeks, and another round of pocket billiards qualification events has wrapped up. The event will be held at the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino and will dole out a total of $3,000,000.Undoubtably one of the most talented and fearless females in the game, Jasmin Ouschan played in the qualifier in Oslo, Norway, held at Elbow Room. Ouschan recently defeated the WPBA’s number one, Allison Fisher, at the EnjoyPool.com 9-Ball Championship last May at the Riviera Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV. Ben Davies of Wales walked through the 15-player field untouched to play Ouschan in the finals and won 10-4. In the second finals, Ouschan went up against Vilmos Foldes, a frequent qualification event participant. The ill-fated Foldes couldn’t withstand Ouschan, who swept by 10-7 to earn her spot in the next IPT event.
Ten players visited the Victoria, Australia, stop held at Legends Cue Centre this weekend. Aussie Ben Nunan ended up facing off with Goh Takami of Japan—one of two non-natives at this event—in the first finals, stunning him with a 10-3 victory. However, Takami made a quick recovery in the second final match against Louis Condo, besting his opponent 10-4.Master Pool in Madrid, Spain, attracted 13 players from all across Europe to their event. Italian David Pascasi won three matches to reach the first finals against Germany’s Andreas Roschkowsky, besting him 10-8. Now in the second final match, Roschkowsky still couldn’t quite pull it together, and David Alcoberro of Spain defeated him 10-7.In the second-largest qualifier, a field of 18 gathered at Country Club USA in Chelmsford, MA, Teddy Garrahan went through the winners’ side with no problems. The only player to give him a run for the money was Erik Hjorliefson, who took him hill-hill in the final match, though Garrahan prevailed. San Diego’s Jeff Beckley came on strong to reach the second final match against Hjorliefson, besting players such as James Baraks, Sam Monday, and Ronnie Wiseman. Still on a roll, Beckley was unfazed by Hjorliefson, notching a 10-7 win.Lou Butera’s Pool Sharks in Las Vegas, NV, attracted the most players, with 21 top players showing up to spar for the two spots. Though the majority of the field was from the U.S., Filipino Antonio Lining ended up the winner of the first spot, cruising through the bracket with victories over Bernardo “King Kong” Chavez, George Michaels, David Matlock, and Cliff Joyner to reach the finals against Southern Californian Tang Hoa, whom he bested 10-6. Lee Heuwagen was waiting for him in the second final match and defeated Hoa 10-7.Visit Inside POOL Magazine for the latest news in the sport of billiards and pool.
