Ryser Conquers Leisure Time Billiards
The twentieth stop of the 2006/2007 McDermott All American Tour (produced by the American CueSports Alliance – ACS) featured a $500 added purse with fifty-one players and was hosted by owner Jim LaFavre at Leisure Time Billiards in Sterling, Illinois, on Saturday, February 3. The event included a double-elimination 8-ball format on bar boxes, and Fred Ryser (New Glarus, WI) ran undefeated to the finals. In the hot-seat match, Ryser – rated a “4” on a regional handicap system used - clipped Shawn Carlson (Beloit, WI), rated a “4”, 4-3.
Earlier in the A-bracket semi-finals, Fred had slipped by Tony Morales (Sterling, IL) [4] 4-3, while Shawn Carlson out pointed Larry Sneath (Rock Island, IL) [4] 4-3. In the B-side semis, Tony Morales ousted Anthony Garcia (E. Moline, IL) [4] 4-2, and in turn Morales was eliminated by Shawn Carlson 4-2. Fred Ryser continued his winning ways in the tourney finals to defeat Shawn Carlson for the title, 4-2!
By virtue of 3rd-place Tony Morales being the highest-finishing ACS member, he qualified for a free singles entry into the 2007 ACS Nationals in Las Vegas – courtesy of the ACS.
