The 13th Annual International Challenge of ChampionsThe 13th Annual International Challenge of Champions is about to begin. The Challenge is considered by many to be the premiere special event in the sport of billiards. During the tournament, you will see world champions and billiards legends compete for one of the most coveted titles in the sport - Champion of Champions! The Challenge is the first sudden-death championship in the sport, with champion versus champion in a field of eight top-ranked professionals. Equally significant, the Challenge is the single highest payday in international winner-take-all billairds - $50,000.
For the thirteenth year in a row, the greatest pool players in the world will go head-to-head in the sport's most demanding shootout. In short-race matches, with players of equal caliber, a single mistake often means the loss of the match. And one loss eliminates a player from any chance at $50,000. By virtue of its format, the Challenge represents the sport's supreme test of skill. The eight players competing are so evenly matched that no clear-cut favorite exists. As they have demonstrated in tournaments worldwide, any of the eight could beat the other seven on any given day. The pressure and the prestige of the event are so dynamic that ESPN will air three 1-hour shows on international telecast. The first match will begin at 4 p.m. and will be between Ralf Souquet and John Horsfall. The next match will start at 5 p.m. and be between Francisco Bustamante and Daryl Peach. The third match will be at 7 p.m. and be between Earl Strickland and Ching-Shun Yang. And the last match will be at 8 p.m. and be between Efren Reyes and Nick Van den Berg. Visit InsidePOOL for the latest updates from the world of billiards and pool.
