The Usual Suspects at the Florida Billiards Tourby Rick DavisWith two billiard events in two weeks, the Seminole Florida Pro Tour pulled into Miami, FL, for their seventh stop of the 2006 season. Fifty-two players made the trip south to Bird Bowl Billiards the weekend of October 14-15 to claim their share of the $8,000-added purse.
After last weekend’s event, many of the top finishers stayed around, trying to improve their finish. Steve Moore and Will Billbrey, who finished first and second last week, respectively, are going strong on the winners’ side. Billbrey sent B.J. Ussery, a tour regular and winner of the season’s second stop, to the west side after a 7-4 defeat. Moore’s competition was just as stiff, controlling a grinding Chris Bartram through a 7-3 match.Jason Klatt, who took third place last week, dealt the final blow to Tommy Kennedy, eliminating him double-hill after Corey Deuel skipped by him 7-3 earlier in the day. Surprising the crowd, last week’s fourth-place finisher Butch Croft was eliminated early, after first Rich Orem squeaked by him double-hill then Ron Wiseman drilled him 7-2. Orem is going strong on the winners’ side, while Wiseman is hanging in there on the one-loss side. Other notables include Dave Grossman and Tony “T-Rex” Chohan who are untouched on the winners’ bracket, while Robb Saez and Hunter Lombardo hang tough on the west side. Those that remain in play, the top sixteen, continue to inch along until only one is left standing to claim the $3,500 first prize.
