Top Billiards Pros Still in ControlBy Rick DavisStarting with 162 billird players Tuesday, the field at the Reno Open will dwindle to 96 by the end of play Wednesday night. Play has seen action move through the third round on the winners’ side and the fifth round on the one-loss side.
A few highlights caught the eye of the crowd today such as strong San Diegoan Dan Wallace defeating Hsin Huang, a 24-year-old woman from Toronto. Huang came back from an 8-5 deficit only to come up dry on the double-hill break, allowing Wallace to run out. Another top woman, WPBA touring pro Melissa Little, was sent west by Bill Houck, but she has already taken another victory on the one-loss side in an effort to fight back. Not everyone is having bad luck, though, as the top men’s pros are all still in the clear on the winners’ side. Robb Saez, Tony Chohan, Jose Parica, Santos Sambajon Jr., Kim Davenport, Gabe Owen, and others are all still sitting pretty, although past winner Sambajon and Davenport are facing off in the 9 p.m. round. The only one of the top players to fall has been Ron Wiseman although he is still alive on the one-loss side. The rest of the week will see play at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. followed by a break and then 7 and 9 p.m. rounds. The top four will return Sunday morning.Visit InsidePOOL for the latest news in the sport of billiards and pool.
