Trujillo Tops the Junior Billiards Championships2006 Colorado State Juniors Championships / Denver, COby InsidePOOL StaffDenver, CO, hosted the 2006 Colorado State Juniors Championships the weekend of September 30-October 1. Held at the Wynkoop Brewing Company, this event brought 23 participants ages 8 through 19 to this annual handicapped 9-ball event.
Nine-year-old DJ Trujillo from Pueblo, CO, went undefeated to become the event’s champion, while James Fortin scrapped his way through the one-loss side to suffer a heartbreaking 5-3 loss in the final match. Fortin notched wins over Kyle Smith 5-2 and Jeremy Archibeque 5-0 to reach the finals. Nicole Keeney earned a thirteenth-place tie and, because she was the highest-finishing female in the event, won a cash prize and trophy.
