USA Going Strong in Second Round of the IPT Billiards TorunamentThe Filipinos continued to turn in divided scores in the second round. Ronato Alcano triumphed hill-hill over Johl Younger, but Gabe Owen won 8-7 over Antonio Lining. Francisco Bustamante won over Hung Ming Chu 8-5, Efren came out ahead of Sammy Jones 8-3, and Ramil Gallego won over Hui-Kai Hsia hill-hill, but Takeshi Okumura defeated Santos Sambajon Jr. 8-3, and Tommy Kennedy bested Rodolfo Luat 8-5. “I was scared to death,” exclaimed Kennedy. “He beats me most of the time.”When asked if he was happy about his game, the former U.S. Open champion replied, “In a way, yes. If you’re not playing every game and focused every game, the other guy can just wipe you out. That’s what happened the first set. I mean, I was playing good going into that, I had him two-nothing then missed one position and that was the end of it.Discuss the IPT World Open 8-Ball ChampionshipVisit the IPT World Open 8-Ball Championship Image Gallery
“I’m still scared but I feel pretty good,” Kennedy continued, “because the matches you’re supposed to win, you don’t win, and the matches you’re supposed to lose, you end up winning.”The ladies did well on the whole in Round Two: Jasmin Ouschan won double-hill over Frank Hernandez, as did Allison Fisher over Kim Davenport. WPBA number two Karen Corr bested Turkey’s Oezer Bulunmaz 8-4 also, and Kelly Fisher won 8-5 over Patrick Holtz. However, Sarah Ellerby lost hill-hill to Dimitri Jungo, and Loree Jon Jones didn’t win a game against Larry Nevel. The Americans are still going strong as a group, though Oliver Ortmann scored an 8-4 victory over Steve Moore, breaking and running five racks throughout their match. Nick Varner defeated Dennis “The Hatchetman” Hatch 8-5, which means that Hatch has not won a match yet today. IPT card winner Brian Groce dusted Canada’s Ronnie Wiseman 8-1, Corey Deuel won over Charlie Williams 8-4, Chicago’s Ike Runnels bested Dee Adkins 8-5, and Shane Van Boening bested Earl Strickland 8-5. Bobby Hunter won a hill-hill match over reigning world champion Chia-Ching Wu, which makes the second double-hill match that Wu has lost today.Feared Northeast player Mike Davis went up against Daryl Peach of the UK and went away with an 8-3, notching four break and run-outs. “That match I felt pretty good—the first match was terrible, but that one I played pretty well. He got a couple of bad rolls in the beginning, but overall I played well. Sometimes the first match you’re real jittery, so I settled in a little bit and hopefully I stay comfortable the rest of the way. Those were the two toughest players [Peach and George Breedlove], so splitting those two isn’t bad but I think I should be able to win two of the next three, although nothing is guaranteed, so we'll have to see.”Round 2 GROUP 41GROUP 42GROUP 43GROUP 44GROUP 45GROUP 46GROUP 47GROUP 48GROUP 49GROUP 50GROUP 51GROUP 52GROUP 53GROUP 54GROUP 55GROUP 56GROUP 57GROUP 58GROUP 59GROUP 60K.
