Weekend Activity at the U.S. Open By InsidePOOL StaffBeginning with eight players in the winners' bracket and sixteen in the one-loss side, the weekend activity has been incredible at the 28th annual U.S. Open. The story of the afternoon so far has been the match between Keith "Earthquake" McCready and Niels Feijen in the winners' side. McCready has been wowing everyone this week with his aggressive play and excellent safeties, and his match with Dutch star Feijen was no exception. The two players traded the lead back and forth throughout the match until the effervescent California player, known best perhaps for his portrayal of "Grady Seasons" in "The Color of Money," tied the score at 8. With a clean break-and-run-out, he was up 9-8. Making nothing on his next break, he was forced to turn the table over to Feijen, who made several balls and then after chalking his cue for his next shot, dropped the chalk on the cue ball, causing McCready to call a foul on him. McCready got poor position on the 6 ball, but after a missed kick attempt by Feijen, made a sweet cross bank and ran out that rack to take the hill and then broke and ran out the next rack to win the match 11-8.
Efren "The Magician" Reyes, recent Hall of Fame inductee in July, suffered his first loss to "Rocket" Rodney Morris earlier this afternoon. He missed several key balls throughout the match, which was still quite close throughout. Morris has been playing superb pool all week, and with several break-and-runs and the mistakes on Reyes' part, he soon took the 10-7 lead. Reyes won one more rack after that, but then he missed the 7 ball in the last, leaving Morris an easy three-ball run-out for the 11-8 win.Jeremy Jones, recent three-time winner of the Texas Open over Labor Day weekend, defeated Fabio Petroni 11-8 in the winners' bracket, and defending champion Ralf Souquet is currently battling with Jose Parica in the last winners' bracket match. The results from the 11 a.m. one-loss bracket matches are as follows:Archer d.
