Whitewashes Continue in the Second Round of Billiards TournamentSeveral 8-0 billiard matches have finished up early in the second round of the first day of the World Open 8-Ball Championship. Former World All-Around champion Larry Nevel had success against Tuan Kiat Goh, delivering him an 8-0 whitewashing. “He missed some chances, but I played pretty good and didn't miss any balls.”Keeping with the theme of this event so far, Nevel added, “I’m making balls on the break this time. I was breaking wrong at the last tournament. I changed the english I put on the cue ball. I like it here - the venue is much nicer.”Discuss the IPT World Open 8-Ball ChampionshipVisit the IPT World Open 8-Ball Championship Image GalleryNorth American Open runner-up “Marvelous Marlon” Manalo completely routed Rafael Gonzalez 8-0, and Evgeny Stalev of Russia, who made the final six in the IPT’s last event, did the same to Michael Cernero. Sweden’s Marcus Chamat bested Bernard Friend 8-0, and Ronato Alcano of the Philippines dealt Mary Kenniston an 8-0 defeat. Darren Appleton of the UK kept the theme going, defeating Ouahbi Amine 8-0, and Ralf “The Surgeon” Souquet dealt an 8-0 blow to Ryan Keller.
Germany’s Roman Hybler, who qualified for this event in Switzerland, along with Sandor Tot, defeated John Wims 8-3. “The matches were tough, but I won two times. I am very happy with how I am playing, and I think I will go to the next round,” Hybler stated. Compliments regarding the venue continue to pour in, as well, as Hybler continued, “The hotel is very big and nice - I have never seen anything like this before. I have played fifteen years, and this is very nice.”Defending champion Thorsten Hohmann had his break in the first round and met Jim Raney in the second, besting him 8-2. “I made a couple of mistakes, the table was tough to break on. I’m happy … my first match I didn’t expect to play one-hundred percent and my opponent was the lowest-ranked player, I think, so I wasn't really one-hundred percent focused. My next match I will need to play full speed, though.” Hohmann will play Warren Kiamco in the third round.Regarding the break, Hohmann asserted, “I don’t see any difference in the tables, it’s the same cloth, I think, so we will see more eights on the breaks. Yesterday every time I broke a made a ball, but this table was tough.”He was eager to praise the tournament room, adding, “This is the best venue I have ever played in - it’s very organized and elegant. Just breathtaking.”Round 1 GROUP 1T. HohmannS. MooreL. JonesW. KiamcoJ. RaneyGROUP 2M. ManaloC. WilliamsS. TownsendT. KennedyR. GonzalezGROUP 3D. OrcolloN. VarnerG. AtwellM. MasseyJ.
