Thorpe and Paul Lead Viking Juniors

 

Viking Cue Junior 9-Ball Tour / Columbus, OH

The March 31-April 1 weekend brought a pair of juniors’ events to compliment the host of other action offered by the Viking Cues 9-Ball Tour at Cornfed Reds in Columbus, OH, with Billy Thorpe and Brandon Paul taking top honors in their respective events.

In the 14-and-under division 10-year-old Billy Thorpe was in command, defeating Nathan Zimmerman 4-3 in the hot seat match. On the one-loss side Zimmerman continued his problems with close matches as Zach Medley slipped past him double-hill in the semifinals. Then, in the finals, Thorpe showed why he was there and drilled Medley 4-1.

Thorpe won a $400 Viking Cue; however, since he had previously won a national qualifier spot, Zimmerman and Medley each received a qualifier entry.

In the 18-and-under division Brandon Paul defeated D.J. Holloway 4-2 in the hot seat match, while Zach Davis eliminated Adam Shively by the same score in the quarterfinals. Holloway and Shivley matched up in the semifinals, and after the double-hill finish, it was Davis who had survived. The finals offered swift play for Davis, though, who was thrashed by Paul 4-1.

Paul took away a $380 Viking Cue, while Davis and Paul each received an entry to the nationals.
