Bustamante Undefeated at UPA Championship
UPA Pro Tour Championship / Normandie Casino, Los Angeles, CA
by Rick Davis
With Sunday’s action on hand, the final four players of the UPA Pro Tour Championships met to decide the winner of the five-day event. On the winners’ side Mika Immonen faced Francisco Bustamante in the hot seat match, while Johnny Archer and Robb Saez squared off in the quarterfinals on the one-loss side.
Bustamante was able to take control on the winners’ side and took the match 7-4 in short order to rest in the finals while Immonen headed west. At the same time Archer smoked Saez 7-2 in the quarterfinals then eliminated Immonen 7-4 in the semifinals for his chance at redemption in the final match.
With Archer back into stroke, he was looking good, and with an early 6-3 lead it appeared to be an easy walk for him; however, Bustamante was not out yet, and with some well-spread breaks and Archers’ unfortunate scratches, he was able to tie the set then take over to win the match 7-6.
Results:
1st Francisco Bustamante $10,000
2nd Johnny Archer $5,000
3rd Mika Immonen $3,000
4th Robb Saez $2,520
5th Charlie Bryant $2,000
Raj Hundal
7th Shane Van Boening $1,500
