Farewell to Pool Paradise
Canadian 30K Tour / Waterloo, ONT
by Willy Hermoza and Tony Butera
The Canadian 30K Tour experienced the end of an era the weekend of May 26-27, as their host site, Pool Paradise, is closing their doors. Thirty-six players gathered to partake in the event and to give their best wishes, with Adam "GQ" Smith walking away with top honors.
Smith went through the top half of the bracket with ease, fending off frequent tour winner Erik Hjorliefson 9-7 to meet the 14-year-old Jeff Robson in the hot seat match. Robson, fresh off a 5-4 defeat of Dave Parker, took Smith to the hill and then ran out to victory.
Hjorliefson earned a rematch with Smith by besting Ken Stutz in the quarterfinal match 9-3, but Smith still had "Big Red's" number and won their match 9-5, moving into the finals. The first set went double-hill with Smith emerging as the winner. Now ready to roll, Smith pulled off a decisive 10-2 victory in the second set.
